Walking Log ... Walks including "Blencathra - Hallsfell Top"

Blencathra - Hallsfell Top
A huge, magnificent mountain bulk located northeast of Keswick. It is made up of six seperate fell tops. Running west to east these are Blease Fell, Gategill Fell, Hall's Fell, Atkinson Pike, Doddick Fell and Scales Fell. With the exception of the northern spur of Atkinson Pike, these fells form a 4km ridge running the length of the mountain.

Blencathra is most impressive when viewed from the south, where this stunning fell throws out five spurs falling almost 2000ft to the valley floor. Between the spurs are deep ravines, each with its own gill. The best known of these ridges leads to the top of Hall's Fell, the highest point in this cluster of fells. The northern aspect is significantly less dramatic.

Blencathra is also home to the most feared ridge walk in England, Sharp Edge. Beneath Sharp Edge and Tarn Crags sits the gorgeous Scales Tarn.
