Walking Log ... Walks including "Calf Top (Middleton Fell)"

Calf Top (Middleton Fell)
Calf Top is situated directly south of Sedburgh and northeast of Barbon. Positionally, it's another of those slightly confusing fells as this area is at the junction of Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria, with the Yorkshire Dales boundary running along the eastern side of the summit. I believe that most of it currently sits in Cumbria.

There has been much consternation about the exact height of Calf Top. Several surveys have been carried out that statistically point to it being 4mm short of the 2000 foot mark, but as these are GPS readings and subject to an error margin there is still a good possibility that it does in fact reach mountain status. Oh my word - GET A GRIP !!! Put it this way - at the top you can be sure that everything from the ankles up will be above 2000ft, and if you are bagging all the English mountains you need to climb Calf Top to make absolutely sure you've done them all. People really should stop babbling about this kind of thing and climb the bloody thing - if a fell is worth climbing, it's worth climbing!

Either way, mountain or hill, Calf Top itself doesn't really care. It has fine views of the Howgills, a good chunk of the Dales, the Lake District mountains and the sea - as such it's worthy of a visit regardless of trivial height classification.
