Walking Log ... Walks including "Red Tarn (Helvellyn)"

Red Tarn (Helvellyn)
By far the better known of two Red Tarns in the Lakes. This is quite a large tarn located high up on the eastern flank of Helvellyn. Its outflow, Red Tarn Beck flows down to Glenridding and ultimately into Ullswater.

Attractive in its own right, Red Tarn is made more impressive being set in the most stunning scenery. It is surrounded on three sides by Striding Edge, Helvellyn, Swirral Edge and Catstye Cam, with only the eastern aspect open to Birkhouse Moor.
